You’re used to fishing at a pond or along the banks of a lake. You want to try something more challenging and dream of landing a Marlin or another big game fish. It is possible to plan open sea fishing on a budget if you’ll follow some of these suggestions.

Open sea fishing can be expensive if you’re not used to spending $400 to $2,500 a day or more to charter a boat. Depending upon where your day begins, it could be much more than that. But it doesn’t have to cost you a week or two’s salary to enjoy open sea fishing.

If chartering a boat is the only way you’ll be able to enjoy open sea fishing, you may want to consider chartering a party boat or head boat. This type of boat can carry from one to 93 people who all share the cost of renting the boat. The more people you have in your party the cheaper the price per person will be.

Choose a shorter open sea fishing trip. Boats can be chartered for two or more hours. Of course, the longer the trip, the more it will cost. You’ll also be charged more if you choose to charter a boat for an evening cruise rather than during the daytime.

Evening family package trips are another option. The boat doesn’t go as far out into the open sea, but you may still be able to catch some of the same fish you’d catch in deeper water. This type of fishing trip may be your best choice if you’ve never been open sea fishing or if you have younger children.

Finally, to avoid some of expenses of open sea fishing, you might want to consider renting a boat and navigating the waters on your own. You can expect to pay $200 or more a day to rent a boat, but if you rent it for a week or rent a smaller boat, you may be able to save quite a bit of money.

Fishing is a common activity wherever there is water – fresh or salty, it doesn’t matter – either as a way to feed one’s family or as a sport. You may have tried freshwater fishing and saltwater fishing off the coast of the United States, but you’re curious about open sea fishing around the world. If you have the opportunity to travel overseas, here are some places you may want to visit.

There are literally hundreds of places around the world you can choose to go open sea fishing. Some are as closer by than others, but there are others all the way around the globe. And with each different area, you’ll find new fish to chase.

Mazatlan, Mexico is a sport fishing mecca. You can catch marlin, wahoo, yellowtail and swordfish. Reports state there are over 600 species of fish in the waters off Mazatlan but many people travel to this region to mainly for the near-1,000 pound marlin and swordfish.

New Zealand is a world away from Mexico, but you can find a number of sport fish to make the trip worth your while. The Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Tonga are normal fishing destinations. Look for sailfish, northern blue tuna, Spanish mackerel, and mahi-mahi.

Planning a trip to Bermuda? It’s a great place to try open sea fishing. World record game fish have been caught in this area for years. You can expect to find barracuda, blue marlin, white marlin, black fin tuna, and yellow fin tuna to challenge your fishing skills.

Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica is another worldwide destination for open sea fishing. While you’re on the boat, look for black, blue, and striped marlin, yellow fin tuna, and wahoo.

Obviously these are only a few of the locations you can choose for open fishing around the world. Consider your budget, when you’ll be able to travel, and then make plans to give open sea fishing a try.
